Laser ablation is a technique used by surgeons to treat varicose veins. This procedure has been time-tested and improved over the years to maximize practicality. When combined with other treatments, it can be effective in removing varicose veins.
Varicose veins are caused by leakage; there are 150 potential spots for leakage in your veins, though most people only have a few that end up causing problems. However, all of these spots must be sealed in order to achieve the varicose-free near-perfect leg you desire. Ablation treatment seals some, but not all.
Different variations of ablation vein treatment include VNUS Closure and EVLT. VNUS Closure treatment involves snaking a wire inside the saphenous vein from below your knee and then into the groin area. After the wire is advanced far enough, the temperature is raised high enough to burn the vein, leaving it non-viable and dead inside the thigh.
EVLT, or endo venous laser therapy, is a minimally invasive procedure that treats large veins in your thighs and calves. This procedure works similarly to VNUS Closure as it relies on thermal energy to seal off the vein. With EVLT, the hope is to eliminate the vein’s visibility. Between these two procedures, results are mixed. Some factors can cause complications including the presence of a 2nd system in the groin that is responsible for varicose and spider veins. Additionally, some patients may have a leak in the back of their knee or large incompetent leaks in the calf.
No matter which procedure you choose, results will be inconsistent when not combined with a comprehensive treatment plan. You need to address vein issues holistically, searching for all possible leaks. Without this, you run the risk of recurrences of the issue.

I’ve had two laser treatments and an injection starting when I was 17 and now I have recently turned 18. The process was quick and effective. Everyone in the office was very professional and informative and they answered all my questions. They were very polite during the procedures and made sure there was no pain. Additionally, the aftercare is very simple and there are not many restrictions.
